Review: Divoom Pixoo 16 WiFi pixel display $90

It comes with a USB-C to USB-A cable, but you must provide a 5 volt 2 amp power supply to run it. Using the Divoom app, you log it into your home 2.4Ghz wifi and control what artwork / animations or dashboards it displays. The app has a large community of pixel artists who have contributed a large amount of art and animations to choose from, or you can create your own artwork. It also has a few built in "dashboards" to display social media view/subscribe counts, stock market tickers, weather, clocks, etc. There are also a few utility features such as a scoreboard, stopwatch, decibel loudness meter, etc. Overall the hardware worked well, and the app made it easy to connect to wifi and use. It's plastic construction, and doesn't feel especially high quality, but fits well into a minimalist black aesthetic. I wish they had included an AC power adapter for it, but I was able to scrounge up a spare one I had laying around. Some of the animations can be flashy and attention grabbing, so you'll have to curate your playlist carefully if you want a calm display. [It does allow you to adjust the light level to dim it down, and set "off" times for bedtime.] Overall it's a nice toy, and I could potentially see a use for it in a classroom or lunchroom or school (I'm thinking the decibel meter, scoreboard functionality, stopwatch / clock more than the artwork), but I'm not sure that justifies the price.
