I can't recommend the Nova S fitness tracking ring

I was happy with the Nova R health tracking ring (see my previous reviews), and was excited to review their new upcoming Nova S ring (which is designed to replace the R) that is on Kickstarter now. I feel like the battery integrated charging case is a real improvement over the "desk stand" charger that comes with the Nova R. And the Nova S works just like the R for collecting health data...WHEN IT WORKS. Unfortunately, about once a day, my evaluation ring would shut down and stop collecting data. Every time I tried to connect to it with the phone app and it wasn't able to connect, I knew it was time to put it into the charging case to "wake it up". Immediately after that, I could connect to the ring with the phone app and download all of the data it had collected up until the shutdown. So just about every day I would be left with a gap in the collected data. This doesn't appear to be a low battery issue, as I've had it happen soon after a full charge, and after being woken up, the ring continues to work for long periods of time and reports good battery percentages. The only other "odd" behavior I noticed was that twice I caught the ring with both green lights on solid (not flashing as they do for heartrate monitoring normally). When I connected to the app, the ring reported that it was checking on the heart rate variability, but I would have to manually hit the 'x' to stop this to make the lights go off. In this case, the ring still connected to the phone app just fine, so it's possible this is normal behavior that I only happened to notice twice in a month, but the lights typically flash. I don't know if the pre-production ring they sent me to review has an isolated problem, or if this is an issue that could be easily fixed with a firmware update before the Kickstarter is over, but based upon my one review item, I can't recommend upgrading to the Nova S ring as I found mine to be unreliable, and have switched back to using my Nova R ring.
