This is very similar to the placemats I made a few years ago (same fabric) I also attempt the binding again, and I will say this time I was happy with how it turned out. This technique allows for more manageable and portable sections to be quilted, and eliminates the need for a large quilting machine or a long-arm quilter. To quilt as you go, each individual block or section is first pieced and then layered with batting and a backing fabric. The layers are then quilted together, either by hand or with a sewing machine. Once all the blocks or sections are quilted, they are assembled together using a joining technique such as sashing, which covers the seams and gives the quilt a cohesive look. There are many variations of the quilt as you go technique, with different methods for piecing, quilting, and joining the sections. Some quilters prefer to use a foundation fabric to stabilize their blocks, while others use a fusible batting to attach the layers together. QAYG can also be adapted to different types of quilting, such as applique or embroidery.
