About This Video

In this video I’m walking you through my filming setup for 2020, but from my actual perspective—what I’m looking at when I’m standing in front of the camera talking to you. I break down how I frame myself, how I monitor focus and composition, and how I light the space even though my living room basically opens up into the rest of the apartment (all the way to the kitchen). Audio is a big focus here too, because in a big open room I want the cleanest sound I can get. I show my full rig: my Sony A7S in a cage with a Tilta follow focus, plus an Ikan VH8 monitor mounted with a SmallRig-style magic arm setup so I can flip it around for talking head or B-roll. For lenses, I’ve been running Rokinon Cine glass (24, 35, 50, 85) because the geared rings make pulling focus way easier, and I explain how I use each focal length for A-roll vs product shots. I also go over my GVM 800D RGB lights (and why simple lighting + diffusion helps me a ton), my Rhino EVO slider for those slow product moves, and the fluid-head Sachtler Ace tripods I’m borrowing. The big takeaway: none of this is “spectacular”—it’s mostly secondhand gear that lets me keep improving while the channel grows.
