About This Video

In this video I review the 2020 Google Pixel Buds and talk about why this generation feels like Google’s first real “truly wireless” attempt. I go through the unboxing (simple and clean), what you get in the box (extra ear tips, USB-C cable, paperwork), and how easy pairing is—especially on a Pixel phone. On my original Pixel XL, it was basically: open the case, hold the button until it flashes, follow the pop-up, install the Pixel Buds app, and I was done in about two minutes. I also break down the tech specs and real-life use: up to 5 hours listening (2.5 talk), plus extra juice from the case, and that quick 10-minute charge that can get you up to 2 hours of listening. I like that the case charges over USB-C or wirelessly, and the magnets keep the buds from falling out even if you open it upside down. Touch controls are solid (volume swipes, tap to play/pause, double/triple tap), and you get Google Assistant with a press-and-hold. Sound-wise, I think they sound great for an average consumer like me, and after months they finally added a bass boost toggle (firmware 550), even though there’s still no full EQ. My biggest complaint is connectivity—sometimes the left earbud just won’t connect and I’ve had to reset them. For $179, they’re good when they work, but I’d honestly consider waiting for the next generation.
