About This Video

Cinematic… what does it mean and how do you actually achieve it? In this first part of my mini series, I break it down in a super practical way: it’s not one magic setting, not just lights, and not only music. It’s a combination of choices—and today I’m focusing on the most important one you can control instantly: your shot types and how you cover a scene. I walk you through four shot categories I use basically every time I go out to film: wide shots (to establish the setting and environment), medium shots (waist-up, perfect for dialogue and versatile scenes), close-ups (details, emotions, expressions), and unique shots (POV, aerial, weird angles—anything that adds creativity). Then I share my simple rule that keeps my filming organized: get at least three shots from each category. So if you’re filming a car, don’t just grab one wide—do three wides from different angles, three mediums, three close-ups, and then try to add one unique shot that people don’t see very often. That’s how you take a “boring” video and make it feel cinematic and engaging.
