I break down four purchases that helped me make better videos for clients, and the last one is my biggest investment by far. First, I explain why a matte box is not just for looks (even though I’m not gonna lie… it looks better and clients love it). It helps kill sun flare from any direction, gives you more contrast, and it can protect your lens—especially when you’re using ND filters with no front thread. Then I talk about SD cards, because I already had a real problem on a long shoot: my recording stopped mid-action simply because I ran out of space shooting 4K 24fps in HDR PQ (H.265 eats storage). After that, I recommend having a B-cam for BTS—my cheap used GoPro Hero 8 from Facebook Marketplace is perfect for POV shots, unique angles, and matching 4K footage. Finally, I share why a V-mount battery was the upgrade that made client work way less stressful. The Canon R10 LP-E17 batteries are small and don’t last long, so going V-mount let me shoot for days and power my camera plus audio without constantly charging and swapping batteries.
