About This Video

In this video I move fast—because we have no time to waste—and I show you a super simple trick in DaVinci Resolve that instantly makes your shots feel more “story” and less “random clip.” The whole idea is using masking (windows) to create a binocular/POV-style look, but the bigger takeaway is that once you understand this workflow, you can build a ton of creative effects: keyhole looks, peeking through a crack in a door, hiding in a closet—whatever your brain comes up with. I start by lining up two clips so the motion feels continuous (if you want it to look more professional, match your pan direction and cut on the movement). Then inside the Color page, I create a circular window and the key step is adding an Alpha Output on the node (right click → Add Alpha Output) and connecting it—this is what actually cuts out everything outside the mask. From there I adjust the size, add feather/softness (because without it, it looks terrible and fake), and if I want extra realism I’ll play with lens distortion to get more of that “barrel lens” feel. If your shot is too static, I’ll even add a touch of Camera Shake to sell it as handheld. Practice, practice, aaand practice.
