In this video I’m checking out the Padsmith Crucible Pro gaming mousepad, and yeah—this one was sent out for review, but these are still my complete, honest opinions. I break down the different variants (Crucible V2 vs Pro Series), pricing ($30 for V2, $50 for Pro), and sizing on the one I tested (490x420, 3mm). Both versions come flat packed, so you don’t have to deal with annoying pad curl out of the box. The Crucible Pro uses Padsmith’s Alpha Cell Gen 2 base, and it gives the pad a firmer, “hard pad” kind of feeling with basically no plush. The surface has a subtle weave pattern that adds a light texture on the forearm and helps with stopping power, but overall I’d call it more of a balanced speed pad than a true neutral balance. It’s also skate dependent: dot skates felt faster, while full-size skates made it feel more balanced. In-game, I got great initial speed with solid dynamic friction for quick micro adjustments, and it never felt muddy. My only real gripe is the base grip—on my butcher block desk it could slide unless I used a little water—otherwise it’s a super solid option with one of my favorite embedded designs on the market.
