About This Video

This is my new PC build… at least I think it is, because I put it head-to-head against my current tiny T1 that looks basically identical on the outside. The old one is a fully liquid-cooled 4090 + 7800X3D setup, and the new one is a completely air-cooled 5090 + 9800X3D build. Obviously the 5090 system is faster, but the whole point of this video is figuring out how much faster it actually is in the stuff I do every day—and what it costs in noise and thermals. I also walk through the “max spec everything” upgrades: 96GB DDR5 6400 CL32 (yes, I pulled the heat spreaders off so it fits under the cooler), 8TB total NVMe storage with a 4TB 990 Pro boot drive, and custom short unsleeved cables for that clean OEM factory look. I even 3D printed vents and shrouds to try to channel airflow, and it genuinely blew my mind how little it mattered—like a 1°C difference on the GPU at most. For testing, I focus on demanding real-world workloads (Resolve denoise playback and exports, Blender renders/animation), plus two gaming scenarios: 4K fully ray traced Cyberpunk and 1080p 480Hz Overwatch 2. The 5090 machine is meaningfully faster in creative work and ~30% up in Cyberpunk, but it’s also hotter and louder than my liquid-cooled 4090 build—so yeah, I’m switching over… and then probably liquid cooling it next.
