I’ve just ticked over 3,000 hours on my OLED monitor, and I’ve been using it pretty much the way everyone tells you not to: the same three apps over and over, at 80–100% brightness, with a ton of static UI. For the past two years this LG 32-inch dual mode has basically been my daily driver for Fusion 360, DaVinci Resolve, and Overwatch 2—so if burn-in is going to show up in a real setup, this is a decent stress test. After throwing up full-screen gray and color slides, I can see some very faint burn-in. The worst is in the bottom-left from Overwatch’s health bar (near-white static element, basically worst case), and I can also spot the hexagon around the player card on a blue background. If I really go hunting, I can also make out slight timeline scrollbar burn-in from Resolve. But in normal day-to-day use? I can’t see it at all, even in the gray-ish dark modes I live in. My takeaway hasn’t changed: if you’re not doing anything obnoxious, OLED burn-in is mostly a non-issue. Use dark mode, hide the taskbar, avoid snapping the same windows all day, set the display to sleep quickly, and leave the panel’s burn-in assists on (image cleaning, auto dimming). The upgrade from LCD is still so big that, for me, it’s worth it.
