About This Video

The world’s fastest GPU is here, and honestly it’s a lot smaller than I was expecting. In this video I unbox the RTX 5090 Founders Edition (no performance numbers yet—those are coming), and I compare it physically to the 4090 FE. Length and height are basically the same, but the big deal is thickness: it’s now a two-slot card, which immediately makes compact ITX builds way more interesting. The darker, more neutral look is a nice change too, and I’m very happy NVIDIA went back to the angled power connector because those few millimeters matter in small cases. I also dig into why this cooler design could be amazing—or a problem—depending on the case. The whole point is airflow moving straight through the heatsink, so cases that block the backside (like some super popular ITX layouts) could trap hot air and work against the design. NVIDIA claims big improvements: optimized fin height, tighter fin spacing, liquid metal, and even separate cables for the PCIe connector and I/O to keep the heatsink as uninterrupted as possible. The catch is power: my current FormD T1 build is fully watercooled around a 450W 4090, and the 5090 is 575W… so yeah. That’s why my mini 5090 PC build “begins” here: I’m exploring an air-cooled route in the FormD T1 with a custom exhaust vent concept. I 3D scan the layout to model the gap and start prototyping in Fusion, because the end game is extracting GPU exhaust cleanly and preventing recirculation—something that’s been mindblowing for me in the past.
