Episode 2 of our Kimberley run is all about big landscapes and that first proper taste of station life. We kick things off at Windjana Gorge, getting up early to catch sunrise after hiking through the gorge walls — which is wild to think used to be an ancient reef. It’s one of those spots where you can’t help but slow down, look up, and just soak in how massive the Kimberley feels. From there we roll along the Gibb River Road, checking out new surroundings as we push toward our first station of the series: Mount Elizabeth Station (MTE). We swing past Mount Barnett Roadhouse to regroup and keep the wheels turning, then make the final stretch to MTE before dark. The big takeaway from this one is simple: the Kimberley rewards early starts and steady pacing — sunrise hikes, long corrugated roads, and arriving with enough light to set up camp without the chaos. Station country hits different, and MTE is the perfect place to start that chapter.
