This is Episode 1 of our Kimberley / Gibb River Road series, ‘Across the Kimberley’, and it’s basically us ripping out of Broome and straight into that red-dirt, remote-coastline kind of magic. We point Jerie (our 2013 Mitsubishi Pajero) up Cape Leveque Road and head for Middle Lagoon — one of those camps that feels too good to be real… and yep, we’d heard it might be closing soon, so we wanted to get in while we still could. Expect beachy camps, big laughs, and the usual “why are we like this?” moments that happen when you’re living out of a 4WD full-time. From there we swing inland to Windjana Gorge, which is hands-down one of the most ancient and dramatic spots to kick off a Kimberley run. This episode is also our first proper test of life off-grid with our new build, in the wild north of WA — figuring out what works, what doesn’t, and what needs tweaking when you’re actually out there doing it (not just dreaming about it in a carpark).
