Some plants are more tolerant of being root bound than others and Monsteras are definitely one of them. HOWEVER, there comes a point where it becomes a necessity to upsize the pot. Signs your plant is root bound: -Plant dries out more quickly than usual -Slower growth -Leaves are yellowing (not just the oldest leaf, but multiple leaves) -Roots are circulating the bottom of the pot or growing out of the drainage holes When you do repot, size up only 1-2 inches larger than the original root ball (not necessarily 1-2 inches bigger than the previous plant). Root trimming is okay if the plant is healthy and well-established.
