Maybe...🤭 The Philodendron Caramel Marble used to sell for thousands not too long ago, and now these tiny starter plants are a fraction of the price. So yes, the baby was an impulse buy — but I regret nothing! Surprisingly, these rare beauties are very easy in my environment. I don’t use extra humidity, and they sit under the same grow lights as my regular houseplants (12 hours a day). The Alocasia Melo Albo and Black Velvet Pink Variegated, however, are a little more particular. Variegated Alocasias typically thrive at 60–80% humidity, warm temps, and consistent moisture. In standard indoor humidity (35–50%), you might see slower growth or crispy spots unless you boost humidity or keep them in a greenhouse-style cabinet, which is what I do. If you’re thinking of dabbling in rare plants, my #1 tip is to always master the non-variegated version first. Once you’ve nailed that care routine, you’ll have a much easier time with the variegated versions.
