If I could go back and talk to my younger self about money, there are so many things I wish I’d known sooner. In this video I’m sharing the simple money habits that have made the biggest difference to our family finances over the years. From budgeting and selling things we no longer use, to investing through ISAs and saving for the kids with Junior ISAs, these are the small things that can really add up over time. I also talk about ideas like compound interest, Coast FIRE, and some principles from The Simple Path to Wealth that have helped me think differently about money. I’m definitely not a financial expert – just a mum of three who has learned a lot along the way and wanted to share the things I wish someone had explained to me earlier. If you’re trying to get a bit more organised with money, start investing, or think about your family’s future, I hope this video gives you some helpful ideas. About This Video

In today’s video I’m sitting down for a proper chat about 10 money things I genuinely wish someone had explained to me in my 20s and 30s. I’m in my 40s now, I’m not a financial adviser, and this is all very “normal mum” layman’s terms — but it’s exactly the kind of stuff that’s made the biggest difference to our family over time. I talk about why budgeting actually gives you freedom (not restriction), how I split ours into “needs, wants and future you”, and why it takes a good 3–4 months to really see what’s going on. I also share the habits that helped us feel more in control: paying your future self first with direct debits (I do a Christmas fund every month), building an emergency fund for peace of mind, and thinking about side hustles (YouTube started as mine, and I also sell on Vinted). Then we get into the bits I wish I’d started sooner: investing even small amounts, using your ISA allowance if you can, and setting the kids up with Junior ISAs so time and compound growth can do the heavy lifting. Finally, I touch on pensions (including moving mine into a SIPP so I can see it and choose investments), working out a Coast FIRE number as a goal, overpaying the mortgage if it suits you, and why Matt and I combine finances to stay aligned and totally transparent.
