About This Video

In this video I show my complete cookie consent banner setup for server-side tracking, using CookieYes as my CMP. I start from the CookieYes dashboard (advanced settings) and grab the installation part for Google Tag Manager. You can install it by GTM (my recommended way for this workflow) or you can also use the manual code in your website head section. I also show where you choose the regulation (I selected GDPR) and why country/state law options depend on your plan. Then I move to the real server-side part: connecting consent mode signals to my GTM server container so tags only fire when consent is granted. I create a server-side variable from Event Data using the consent signal key (GCS), and then I update my server-side tag triggers (Facebook CAPI, Google Ads, and GA4) with match conditions based on consent states like G111 / G110 / G101. The main idea is simple: create the GCS variable once, then add the right trigger conditions for ads_storage and analytics_storage so you don’t fire marketing tags without permission. Finally, I test everything in preview mode by accepting cookies, placing a test order, and confirming my requests return 200 with consent updated—so I know the setup is working perfectly.
