In this first video of my 2026 tracking series, I’m building your foundation by explaining Google Tag Manager (GTM) from a complete beginner point of view. I break down what GTM actually is—a tag management system that lets you add, edit, and manage tracking codes without changing your website code every time. In 2026, I don’t see professional tracking as practical without GTM, because it reduces dependency on developers, makes setup faster, and gives you built-in preview and debug so you can test properly. Then I explain the core GTM concepts in the simplest way: Tag, Trigger, and Variable. Trigger is “when it will happen” (page load, button click, form submit, purchase), Variable is “what” (page URL, button text, price, currency, product details), and Tag is “where the data goes” (GA4, Google Ads, Meta Pixel, and more). Finally, I introduce DataLayer—the most important part for clean tracking—because GTM understands DataLayer, not your website content. I also show how to create a GTM account and container (web), so you’re ready for the next videos where we’ll start implementing real tracking setups.
