In this video, I’ll show you step by step how to set up Google Ads Conversion Tracking for your Shopify store using a theme-independent dataLayer. Most Shopify stores rely on theme-based scripts, which often break when you update or change the theme. To solve this, I use a theme-independent dataLayer that allows you to track every important event consistently, without depending on the Shopify theme. ✨ MD FAISAL AMIN — Tracking & Analytics Specialist GA4 • GTM • Meta CAPI • Server-Side Tracking Expert 👨‍💼 Work With Me 🔗 https://linktr.ee/mdfaisalaminbd 📅 Book a Free Website Tracking Audit 🔗 https://zcal.co/faialamindm/30min 🤩 Client Testimonials (Real Results) 🔗 https://youtu.be/0-6M7UT9z4M?si=207yqL8w5Z8jzv0M 💬 WhatsApp — Instant Chat 🔗 https://api.whatsapp.com/send?phone=8801726269000 📨 Telegram — Fast Response 🔗 https://t.me/webanalyticsfaisalamin 🔗 Connect With Me 🌐 Website: 🔗 https://mdfaisalamin.com 📧 Email: 🔗 faisalaminseomarketer@gmail.com ▶️ YouTube: 🔗 https://youtube.com/@mdfaisalamin 💼 LinkedIn: 🔗 https://linkedin.com/in/mdfaisalamindm 📘 Facebook: 🔗 https://facebook.com/mdfaisalamindm 🐦 Twitter (X): 🔗 https://twitter.com/mdfaisalamindm ☎️ Phone: 🔗 +88 01726269000 Here’s what you’ll learn in this tutorial: ✅ How to implement a theme-independent dataLayer in Shopify ✅ Tracking all conversion events: Add to Cart, Checkout Started, and Purchase ✅ Sending User-Provided Data (UPD) to Google Ads for better event match quality ✅ Setting up Google Ads Purchase Event with parameters: id, price, quantity ✅ Implementing the Google Ads array structure for accurate sales reporting ✅ How to ensure every purchase event passes customer information securely ✅ Code snippets provided in the description box for quick setup With this method, you’ll have reliable Google Ads tracking that works even if you switch Shopify themes. About This Video

In this video, I show you step by step how I set up Google Ads conversion tracking for a Shopify store using a theme-independent dataLayer. Most Shopify tracking breaks when you change or update the theme, so my goal here is simple: make the tracking stable, consistent, and not dependent on theme scripts. I start from Google Ads by creating a new website conversion action (I focus on Purchase because it’s the most important and a bit more complicated), then I bring the Conversion ID and Label into Google Tag Manager. Inside GTM, I set up the Google Ads Google tag (fires on page_view) and the Conversion Linker (to keep the GCLID working properly). Then I build the Purchase conversion tag using dataLayer variables like ecommerce.value, ecommerce.transaction_id, and ecommerce.currency. I also show how I pass product-level data using the Google Ads array structure (item id, price, quantity) with a Custom JavaScript variable, because accurate sales reporting matters. Finally, I configure Enhanced Conversions (User-Provided Data) for Purchase only—email, name, address, and other customer fields—because those details are available on purchase, not on add_to_cart or begin_checkout. After publishing, I verify everything in preview mode and explain why Google Ads may show “inactive” for a few hours even when the tags are firing correctly.
