About This Video

In this video I show you how agencies and tracking specialists verify GA4 and Facebook (Meta) tracking even when they don’t have Google Tag Manager access. Many times a business owner or client says “tracking is done,” but you still need to confirm if GA4 events, parameters, and Meta events are actually firing correctly. So I use a simple method: open the website, right click, go to Inspect → Network, and then search the requests that prove what’s happening behind the scenes. For GA4, I search for “collect” and reload the page. Then I open the request and check the Header and Payload. From the Request URL I can confirm if they’re using a first-party/custom domain (like a CNAME) for server-side tracking, and from the payload I verify the Measurement ID, client ID, event name (page_view, view_item), and key ecommerce parameters like item ID, name, category, value, and more. For Meta, I search “tr” and validate the request status (200 OK), the event (PageView or ViewContent), and the parameters like contents, currency, value, content_name, content_category, and pixel. I also check FBP/FBC to understand browser vs server-side signals and quickly detect whether CAPI is really implemented or not.
