About This Video

The suitcases are out because my husband and I are heading to Korea and Japan for two weeks—and this trip is extra special because it’s his first time leaving the country since he was 4 years old. I’m also a daughter of immigrants, which means the minute my parents hear I’m visiting family in Korea, I instantly become the pack mule. So I’m balancing gifts in a medium Away bag (literally half the suitcase is for gifts) while still trying to keep my own stuff as minimalist as possible. In this video, I walk you through how I actually packed carry-on only (minus a couple bulky jackets) by checking the weather first, planning outfits around a full itinerary, and building a capsule wardrobe so everything mixes and matches. I pack by category—tops in one cube, bottoms in another—so it’s easier to remix outfits. I also share my must-haves for long travel days: my Kindle (with a case that’s super easy for flights), a fireproof/waterproof pouch for our most important documents, and my tech setup with fast-charging travel essentials. And yes, I pack pajamas in my carry-on because nothing is worse than being forced to sleep in outside clothes in a hotel.
