I took you with me as we headed from Kyoto to Tokyo— and it was my husband’s very first time, so we were doing the most. I forgot how wild Tokyo Station is (it’s ginormous and just getting out takes forever), and lugging our bags to the hotel was a humbling experience. Next time: luggage forwarding, 100%. From there, it turned into a real-life Tokyo itinerary: Harajuku pizza, shopping, and a very honest review of a viral TikTok udon spot that… I’m sorry, was just mid for me. The udon tasted like udon, and I was basically a shell of a person at that point. We did TeamLab Borderless and I shared my take comparing it to Planets (Planets is still my favorite because it’s more interactive). Then we ate our way through the city—Akihabara for anime vibes, katsukatsu (the sister spot was perfection), matcha + coffee that confirmed I’d rather just taste matcha, and a whole Tokyo pizza comparison. I also took you to Ginza for shopping, a conveyor-belt sushi experience tied to our anniversary “lore,” and quick hits like takoyaki and cream-filled fried bread (not worth a long wait). We ended our trip with church, last-minute eats, and a few Tokyo finds before heading back to “Crusty America.”
