Whether it’s family, friends, or complete strangers, it can feel like you’re always being evaluated, like you need a perfectly-worded explanation ready at all times. I unpack why public school is rarely questioned the same way homeschool is. Public school is treated as the “default,” so when you step outside of that, people often respond with criticism or doubt—not necessarily because they know your kids or your home, but because your choice challenges what feels normal to them. And that’s a big part of what this pushback is actually rooted in. More than anything, this conversation isn’t about winning arguments or proving yourself. It’s about freedom—letting go of the need for approval and growing in quiet confidence as you follow the calling God placed on your family.
