When people hear “homeschool,” they often picture a Pinterest-perfect homeschool room, hours of seatwork, and a schedule that looks like a tiny private school. But after more than 10 years of homeschooling (and with older kids now, including a 9th grader), I can tell you our real life is so much simpler than that. In this video, I’m pulling back the curtain on what a normal homeschool day actually looks like in our home—messy moments, errands, appointments, and all. Most days, my older students handle a good chunk of their work independently, and then we spend about an hour on the subjects we do together. I keep our routine flexible and built around our family life instead of trying to recreate school at home. The big takeaway is this: homeschooling doesn’t have to look impressive to be effective. Some of the most meaningful learning happens in the quiet, ordinary rhythms of home—when we’re consistent, realistic, and focused on what matters most.
