About This Video

There’s a website I couldn’t stop thinking about: the Red Bull Racing one with a fully rotating 3D F1 car. And it made me spiral into this thought: wait… this is what websites can look like? This is allowed? So I looked at my own Y2K portfolio (yes, it has Facebook pokes and a Windows 98 paint tool) and realized it had exactly zero 3D. Naturally, I decided to ā€œquicklyā€ fix that by adding a rotating 3D scene with Spline. What I thought would be a super math-heavy 3D problem (hello, matrices) turned out to be… basically Figma with a 3D viewport. I planned a cozy ā€œtech sisā€ corner room—curved monitor, mechanical keyboard, couch + blanket, plants, carpet—and then immediately struggled because I was on a trackpad and kept melting my walls by accident. The big unlock: I didn’t need to model anything from scratch. I pulled legit 3D assets from Sketchfab, assembled the room in Spline, and embedded it into my site with an iframe. Then reality hit: layout clipping, slow loading, non-responsive mobile, and a watermark because I refuse to pay for Spline. But it’s live, and it unlocked way bigger ideas—clickable objects that open projects, bookshelves for case studies, and even auto-generating wall art from the drawings people leave on my site. It’s messy, but it’s the start of a much cooler portfolio.
