About This Video

I spent two hours staring at a blank screen trying to build a portfolio and feeling weirdly stuck—not because I can’t code, but because I forgot how to build just for fun. So I went digging for that early-2000s internet energy (the era where I’d stay up till 3 a.m. changing blog backgrounds), and I ended up collecting screenshots, colors, and unhinged interactions that made the web feel alive. No strategy, no wireframes—just vibes. That’s how I landed on the idea: a creepy “enter” door homepage, and then a desktop where my projects live as draggable windows instead of boring cards. Then I coded it in Next.js with a real backend because I wanted the chaos to be real: pokes, a guestbook, a suggestions board with upvotes/downvotes, counters, and the main event—a paint app where strangers can draw on my portfolio. I used Builder.io to generate and sync UI components directly into my repo (and even open a PR), then wired everything up with Supabase tables (drawings/messages/projects/metadata/suggestions). I also rate-limited the obvious troll vectors (five pokes per minute, two drawings per ten minutes) and locked things down with constraints and RLS. The takeaway: if you’re stuck in perfectionism or tutorial hell, build the weird thing—the one that makes you want to stay up late, because that’s the one that’s actually yours.
