Will The Backdoor To Babylon Trail Be CLOSED FOREVER?

Today’s adventure is personal. A few years ago, we turned around on the Backdoor to Babylon trail after hitting an obstacle that was too much for our Tacoma. But today — we came back in our 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 for some off-road redemption. The Backdoor to Babylon trail is an underrated route near Hurricane, Utah, winding from Toquerville through red rock hills and desert washes until it drops you off near the Babylon ghost town ruins and the Virgin River. This time, we not only made it — we conquered the same ledge that once turned us around. Along the way, we dealt with lost access points (thanks, construction boom!), slickrock ledges, overgrown paths, and epic views of Red Cliffs and Smith Mesa. The trail may be rated a 3 of 10, but don’t let that fool you — it has teeth.
