We almost skipped this trail… and that would’ve been a mistake. Out in Utah’s San Rafael Swell, Eagle Canyon doesn’t look like much at first. Just another stretch of desert cutting through cliffs and silence. But once you drop down below Interstate 70, everything changes. This isn’t just a trail. It’s a place where history is layered into the rock. From the Swasey family carving out a life in one of the most remote regions of Utah, to ancient pictographs that have lasted for over a thousand years… Eagle Canyon tells a story that most people drive right over without ever knowing it’s there. Seven years after our first trip through here, we came back to experience it again… this time with a new perspective, and a better understanding of what makes this place so special. From narrow canyon underpasses… to bridges towering 300 feet overhead… to hidden spots like the Ice Box and Lone Warrior panel… This turned into more than just a day on the trail. It became a reminder that some of the best places aren’t the ones everyone talks about. They’re the ones you almost pass by.
