Welcome to episode 1 of my new series, Language Diaries! In this video, I’m learning Russian alongside you, and then I turn around and explain what I just studied—because teaching it back is one of the best ways for me to make sure I actually understand it. This first episode is all about Russian verb conjugation, and I walk you through my beginner approach: learning the patterns, getting comfortable seeing changes in verb endings, and building a foundation I can reuse as I keep studying. I also share the resources I’m using to guide my study, including the Beginner’s Russian (2nd Edition) textbook by Hippocrene Books, plus I mention the Be Fluent in Russian YouTube channel as a helpful extra support. The big takeaway is that you don’t have to “wait until you’re good” to start working with grammar—if you learn in small chunks, review consistently, and explain it in your own words, it becomes way less intimidating. I’m studying five languages right now (Spanish, French, Arabic, Russian, and German), so this series is also my way of staying accountable and showing you what real language learning looks like in progress.
