About This Video

In this video I’m talking about language decay—what it is, what it looks like in real life, and why it can feel so frustrating when you’re studying multiple languages at once. I’m learning five languages (Spanish, French, Arabic, Russian, and German), and I’ve definitely had moments where a language I used to feel confident in suddenly feels “far away.” For me, language decay isn’t proof that I’m bad at languages—it’s usually just a sign that I haven’t been giving that language enough consistent input and practice. I also share the mindset that helps me the most: there’s no single “right way” to learn a language, and different things work for different people. My focus is on strategies that keep my languages alive without burning out—things like building simple maintenance routines, rotating my attention intentionally, and using activities I actually enjoy (journaling, translation projects, and travel-related content) to keep the language active. The main takeaway is that you can prevent or reverse language decay, but it works best when you make it sustainable and personal instead of trying to do everything at once.
