My partner is joining me for a fun game where he has picked out five languages that I am not familiar with and I have to guess what they are/where they are from! About This Video

In this video, I’m doing something a little different (and honestly, so fun): my partner joins me for a “guess the language” game. He picked five languages that I’m not familiar with, and I have to listen to short clips and try to figure out what the language is and where it might be from. It’s a really good reminder that even as someone studying multiple languages, there are so many languages and language families that are totally new to me. We listen to samples from Koro, Kusunda, Ik, Chamacoco, and Ainu, and I talk through my thought process as I guess—what sounds familiar, what doesn’t, and what clues I’m using (rhythm, phonetics, and any patterns I think I’m hearing). If you’re into language learning, linguistics, or you just like watching someone try to piece together clues in real time, this is a light, nerdy little challenge. The biggest takeaway is that training your ear is a skill, and it’s okay to be wrong—being curious and paying attention is what makes you better.
