In this video I put the brand new Storm Concept on the lanes and tried to answer the big question: how is this thing “reactive” when it looks and rolls like urethane? I’m on a 40ft fresh pattern and I start doing what I basically only ever do with urethane—standing way right and going straight up 10. The wild part is the Concept just… doesn’t hook. It’s super clean through the fronts, it holds its line, and it’s ridiculously smooth down lane. And when it comes back? There’s basically no oil on it, which is crazy for how strong and fast-absorbing the cover is. I compare it directly to the Storm Level and the IQ 78 U (both at the same 1000 grit) and even throw my short-pin Idol Cosmos (2-inch pin) as a “back in the day” short-pattern trick. For me, the Level is more ball—earlier and stronger—good for about a game before it gets too early and doesn’t want to come back up the hill. The IQ 78 U does what urethane does: early, slow, and if you don’t have enough head oil you’re toast. The Concept ends up being the answer I’ve been waiting for: reactive through the fronts, urethane at the end, and it doesn’t blow up the pattern or force me left right away.
