About This Video

In this video, I’m showing you how to strike on a short pattern without touching urethane—because with all the recent rule changes (and after watching the US Open where urethane wasn’t allowed), it’s smart to get ahead of it. We’re on the Pegasus 36-foot challenge pattern, and the whole goal is simple: control the dry and stop your ball from going crazy off the back end. I’m throwing the Concept from the Tournament Collection and an Attention Star S2, while Jimu’s using an older Sublime Focus (pin down) and a newer Vengeance (pin up). We’re testing which shapes actually give you room for error. The big takeaways: stay right, get up the gutter, and use smooth, early-rolling reactive balls with strong covers (not weak entry-level stuff that’s super quick off friction). If you miss a little in on short, you’ll see how fast it “cooks” and goes high—so we calm it down with our hand: more forward roll, more up-the-back, and less rev rate. We also show the common mistake of moving left because it hooks too much—on short, that usually makes it worse unless you’re insanely precise. If urethane disappears tomorrow, this is exactly how I’m attacking short patterns with reactive and still finding the pocket.
