About This Video

I’m taking you with us down to Lakewood, Washington for the 37th Annual Mattingly Swiss—dark, rainy drive, five-man team, no average cap, and every game is a position round. In this vlog I break down what a “Swiss” actually means (1 point per man, 2 points for team total—7 points up for grabs), why these tournaments are honestly my favorite, and how we built our lineup for Team JR Pro Shop. Going in, we expected the usual short pattern where the gutter hooks, so we packed urethane concepts, surface pads, and a plan to manage transition because five-player teams absolutely scorch a lane. On the lanes, it got really interesting: they put out 37 mL on a 35-foot pattern, which is kind of unheard of. Urethane was definitely in play, but the volume kept it scorable—by late Day 1 we could still get to fourth arrow in spots. We came into Day 2 leading, which meant we were following teams throwing more reactive and less urethane, so there wasn’t as much hold in the middle and we had to be super accurate getting it to that 3–5 breakpoint. We finish 3rd, had the highest pinfall, and Jungo capped it with a 300 in the last game (and front 10 three different times). Big takeaway: communicate early, share what you’re seeing, and don’t give away frames on a pattern that tight.
