About This Video

Back where it all began at JR Pro Shop, me and Barks remade our surface video (the old one got muted), and this time we did it properly: same ball, same lane, and we changed nothing except the surface. We used a Track Stealth Mode Hybrid and started at polish, then worked our way down through 4000, 3000, 2000, 1000, and all the way to 500 grit. The whole point was to show that “one surface fits all” is a myth—each grit gave us a different look, in a different part of the lane, with a different shape. What you’ll see is the higher grits (polish/4000/3000) mostly change how sensitive the ball is to friction—less about “more hook,” more about when it reads and how violent it is. Once we hit 2000, that’s where the difference really shows up: earlier traction, smoother motion, and for Barks on this lane it was the best blend of control and continuation. At 1000 the ball wanted to hook at like 30 feet and start burning up, and at 500 it was basically chalk—super early, tons of flare, and pretty much unusable for our typical league/tournament looks. The big takeaway: don’t lock yourself into box finish—surface turns one ball into a whole pile of options, as long as you know when to go up or down a grit.
