About This Video

In this video I’m back on the lanes with a brand new Motiv piece: the Supra Sport. It’s the first ever Supra solid, and I wanted to see if the “EJ Tackett approved” hype actually translates to regular league and tournament life. I tested it on a 40ft Mercury pattern and built a clean progression against three staples: the Storm Phaze II (the goat benchmark), the Motiv Primal Ghost, and the Motiv Evoke Mayhem. Right away, the Supra Sport surprised me—on paper it’s supposed to be on the weaker/controllable side, but it hooked more than I expected and still stayed really smooth. The big takeaway: “weaker” doesn’t automatically mean “hooks less.” For me, the Supra Sport ended up about 3 boards stronger than my Phaze II, with a later and sharper motion when it sees friction, while the Phaze II rolls earlier and blends the lane with more miss room. The Primal Ghost was later and sharper (almost too sharp for the fresh), and the Evoke Mayhem started up earlier in the mids with a smoother backend shape and the most total hook in this group. If my Phaze II starts getting lazy after game one or two and I need something that gets down lane a touch more and still drives, the Supra Sport is a really solid next step.
