In this video I put the brand new Storm Bionic (symmetrical hybrid) on the lanes and threw it head-to-head with two balls a lot of you already know: the original Ion Pro and the Phaze II Pearl. We were on a 40-foot challenge pattern with a couple games on it, and right away I could tell the Bionic was going to hook more than I expected. Even with a not-so-great release early, it still had the teeth to come back, and once I got my speed and angles dialed in, the ball motion was crazy consistent. For me, the big takeaway is where the Bionic fits. Compared to the Ion Pro, I found the Ion Pro a little longer and a little weaker, while the Bionic picked up earlier, was more rounded down lane, and covered about a board or two more. The Phaze II Pearl was definitely the longest and sharpest of the three, saving more energy and giving me that more “kicky” look down lane. Once I moved left into more head oil with the Bionic and fed it to 10-9-8, it was basically point-and-shoot—if I hit that zone, it went through the pins the same way every time. I also give you my ratings: shelf appeal 9/10, hook potential 7/10, and response time 7/10. Bottom line: this is a strong, versatile, mass-appeal symmetrical that slots in that upper-mid/benchmark area of the bag, especially when you want something with a bit more continuation than a Phaze II.
