In this video I finally get to throw the brand new Storm Ion Max Pearl and see where it fits beside the best-selling Ion Max Solid. We’re on a 42-foot pattern with a couple games on the lane already, and my very first impression was that the Pearl still has that “Ion Max” vibe—heavy rolling, tumbly, and smooth—just with a little more push down lane because of the pearlized additive and the factory polish. It’s not a ball that’s going to go crazy off the back end; it’s more about control, early roll, and letting the ball tumble into the pocket. To really see the differences, I also had Barks polish my Ion Max Solid so both balls were closer in surface prep. Once they’re both shiny, they get pretty close, but the Solid still wants to roll earlier. Then I compared reaction to two balls I know well: the Global 900 Viking (more length and a lot more backend pop) and the Storm Bionic (strong, but more downlane than the Ion Maxes). My big takeaway: the Ion Max Pearl lives right in between the Bionic and the polished Ion Max Solid, and it’s a great piece for heavier oil when you still need something tumbly that saves just a bit more energy for the back end.
