Happy new year 2026—new year, new balls, baby. In this video I put the brand new Roto Grip Transformer to the test on a longer 44ft EJ Tackett pattern, and I start by getting a baseline with my Attention Star S2 (which they discontinued… and yeah, I’m still salty about it). Same line, same idea—let’s see if the Transformer can get anywhere close to that S2 shape I trusted everywhere from WSoB to Team Trials. The big headline: the Transformer is an asymmetric solid, but it’s not that super-early, super-tame look like an Ion Max or Equinox Solid. For me it was noticeably more angular downlane, and it was really responsive to hand position—when I slowed my speed and added a touch more axis rotation, I could make it really corner. Out of the box it’s at 4000, so it’s not going to “die” on you quickly like a rougher 1000/2000 surface ball can. The warning in the title is real too: the new Morph Wing core means thumb-hole placement can drastically change the internal numbers and reaction, so make sure you’re getting it drilled by someone who actually understands layouts and your PAP—ideally an IPSIA certified pro shop.
