In this Shorts video I take a quick look at ScaleTrains.com’s new run of Trinity 82’ (7,883 cu ft) refrigerator cars in HO scale—this time with patched versions and a few different variations. I unbox two cars and show you how simple the packaging is: slide the tray out, pop the taped ends, and the model comes right out. ScaleTrains also includes a surprisingly handy trifold “booklet” with exploded parts diagrams for ordering replacements, plus a little baggie of roller bearing caps. From there I point out the details that make these reefers stand out in modern freight service: that really sharp patch skin, separately applied ladders, end details like grabs, MU hoses, and the silver-tipped ScaleTrains couplers. You’ll also notice touches like the TILX patch on the end and even the road name stamped on the trucks. I went with the non-sound version here, but I do mention that the sound-equipped cars are available too, and ScaleTrains has reportedly improved the rolling on the sound version compared to the last run. Overall these are big, contemporary reefers that look awesome in motion, and the patchwork gives weatherers a great baseline to make them look even more realistic.
