My channel has a variety of info about Model Railroading in many scales, primarily HO scale. I try to respond to everyone's questions to help them along with their journey. Overall, I hope my relaxed yet descriptive approach to modeling will assist those new and old in this great hobby. - James For Collaboration and Business inquiries, please use the contact information below: 📩 Email: jlwreviews@gmail.com 🔔 Subscribe to my channel for more videos: http://www.youtube.com/jlwii2000 ===================== Disclaimer: We do not accept any liability for any loss or damage which is incurred from you acting or not acting as a result of reading any of our publications. About This Video

Where’s a good Shay locomotive when you need one? In this video I jump into Broadway Limited’s first-ever geared steam release: the HO scale Class D 4-truck Shay with Paragon 4 DCC sound. I start with a simple unboxing so you can see exactly what you get—warranty, function sheets (including Pro Lighting vs standard), exploded parts diagrams, and that big operator’s manual—then I get hands-on with Western Maryland No. 5 (with a quick look at C&O No. 3 as well). From there I walk you around the model and explain what you’re actually looking at, especially that offset boiler (it’s there to accommodate the mechanical equipment—no, it’s not a factory mistake). I point out the detailing, lighting, and the Shay drive system, including how the mechanism transfers motion down the line and even back toward the tender. I also run through key Paragon 4 functions like bell, whistle options, couplers, blowdown, water fill, and the background chatter sounds. Most of my focus is on operation: slow speed control and pulling power. On my setup, this Shay crawls smoothly at speed step 1 and clocks about 6 scale MPH on the Accutrack 2, which is a real accomplishment. I also do a pull test (peaking around 5 oz) and briefly show the smoke unit—because, honestly, smoke units are finicky—then wrap it up with a runby and my overall take: Broadway Limited is improving, and this is a much-needed release.
