In this video I take a look at Broadway Limited’s recently released HO scale EMD SD45s, including the Louisville & Indiana, the Erie Lackawanna bicentennial honoring our veterans, and Wisconsin Central Operation Lifesaver #7525. I start with a real-time unboxing so you can see exactly what you get: the 27-page operator’s manual, warranty info, a very detailed exploded parts diagram, the Conductors Club flyer, maintenance/disassembly paperwork, and a locomotive-specific function handout for standard mode and pro lighting mode. After that, I do a quick 360° walkaround on the models and point out the key detail differences between schemes—things like the cab A/C vs. antenna setup, horn placement, sun shades, and the look of the snow plow. You’ll also see the treaded walkways, see-through fan detail, lift rings, truck and fuel tank plumbing, reflective striping on schemes that are still running, and even the cab figure. For operation, I run it right out of the box to show the lighting package (headlight, number boards, ditch lights, classification lights, and cab light behavior), directional lighting, and Paragon 4 sound including the alternate horn on F22. I also check one speed step (2.6 scale mph on my AcuTrax 2) and talk about the onboard capacitance keep-alive that helps it glide through dirty track or brief power gaps. Overall, it’s a solid, smooth-running SD45 with strong features and a lot of detail.
