In this video I’m doing a quick update look at Athearn’s 5th Canadian Pacific Military Tribute SD70ACu—CP 6644—since I’ve already covered the earlier releases and the full SD70ACu review on the channel. The big focus here is the paint scheme and whether anything has changed in the latest run (this one landing in December 2025). Detail-wise it’s the same solid Athearn quality I’ve been seeing: straight handrails, crisp and legible printing, LED lighting, and the separately applied MU hoses (now rubber). I also point out some of the standout visual stuff like the yellow ribbon on the nose, the PTC antenna, and the anti-skid tape that really makes the model pop. I also run it through the same real-time checks I normally do: weight, lighting functions, slow-speed control, and a quick pull test. The new release came in just a hair heavier than a previous unit (only a few grams), and performance was right in line with earlier runs—about 4 oz peak on the pull test. With the Tsunami 2 setup, track power brings it to life, the ditch lights are bright, number boards are on F6, and at one speed step I was seeing about 1.1 scale mph on my AcuTrax 2. Overall, it’s a reliable, durable model with a nice balance of detail, and I finish out with a runby of all five units together.
