About This Video

In this three-minute short review, I’m taking a quick look at the Rapido HO Scale GE 44 Tonner in the Great Northern scheme. I’ve already done a full review on this model, so if you want the deep dive, definitely check that out—but here I’m focusing on the highlights: the unboxing, the detail, and a fast performance and sound rundown. Rapido’s packaging is straightforward, and I always like how they include a manual that feels like something you’d get with the real locomotive. Detail-wise, this little switcher has a ton going on for its size: fine metal windshield wipers, LED headlight, handrails, grills and vents, and even cabinet doors for the panels. There’s also a nicely mounted rear bell with a brass look, good truck detail, and lit number boards on all four sides with directional lighting. On the track, I fire it up on the ESU LokSound decoder and run through bell and horn, plus forward and reverse operation—slow-speed control is smooth in both directions. I also squeeze in a quick pull test and get about 0.8 oz of drawbar pull, which I translate to roughly 10–12 cars (and possibly more, since these quick tests can underperform).
