Apple just dropped the iPhone 17e, so I put it side-by-side with the iPhone 16e to see what actually changed—and honestly, not much. You’re getting the same 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display, the same aluminum build, and both still have the Action Button. Battery life is also exactly the same, and even the size and weight are basically identical (the 17e is just a tiny bit heavier), so your iPhone 16e case should technically fit the 17e. The upgrades are pretty specific: the 17e gets the A19 chip instead of the A18, but the only real difference I’m noticing is around the neural accelerators—day-to-day, I don’t see a big jump. The 17e also improves durability with Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and back for better scratch resistance. Camera-wise, they’re nearly the same, but the 17e adds focus and depth controls that the 16e doesn’t get. The real headline is MagSafe. The iPhone 17e finally has the magnets for MagSafe accessories and chargers, and that’s a no-brainer. If you’re choosing between a 16e and 17e at the same price, I’d go 17e—especially since it starts at 256GB now. But if you already have a 16e, you definitely don’t need to upgrade.
