In this video I’m comparing the iPhone 13 to the iPhone 17e and answering the real question: is it actually worth upgrading, or are you just spending money for a spec sheet flex? I break down what’s basically the “same phone” experience in a lot of areas—both are 6.1-inch Retina XDR OLED, both are aluminum, water resistance is the same, MagSafe is still here, and even the size is so close that your cases might fit (don’t quote me on that). Where the 17e starts pulling ahead is the modern stuff: Action Button instead of the ring/silent switch, Ceramic Shield 2 with better scratch resistance, Bluetooth 5.3, and the move from Lightning to USB-C. Performance and battery are the big upgrades. You’re jumping from A15 to A19, plus you get a 16-core Neural Engine and hardware-accelerated ray tracing. Battery life is also a big deal if your iPhone 13 is aging—about 19 hours vs up to 26 hours on the 17e. The camera is the tradeoff: the 17e gives you a 48MP main camera, but you lose the ultrawide that the iPhone 13 has. Add in Apple Intelligence, more SOS features, eSIM-only, and 256GB starting storage, and it’s close—but it comes down to whether you value battery, USB-C, and longevity more than having that ultrawide lens.
