About This Video

In this video I’m taking a look at the GIM KB-28 RGB case fans, and the headline is pretty simple: they’re $20 for a three pack, and for that price the feature set, build, and thermal performance is honestly unmatched. Are these going to compete with be quiet or Noctua? Of course not. But if you’re building on a budget and you just need solid airflow (plus some RGB if you care), these surprised me in a good way. The reason I even made this review is because I tested the previous version of these GIM fans about a year ago and I wasn’t overly impressed—there were build quality problems and the hub was a pain. The KB-28s are completely different. I’ve been using the upgraded version for about six months, and I ran thermal testing at 1300 RPM, 1000 RPM, and 500 RPM. In gaming, my max CPU temps came in at 35.5°C, 37.1°C, and 38.3°C, and in a CPU stress test I saw about 46°C, 47.3°C, and 47.8°C. Noise-wise, I included mic-based levels and an audio test since I don’t have a legit decibel meter, but the big takeaway is this: for $20, these move a lot of air and beat the “no case fans” route that a lot of budget builders end up taking. Spend the $20—it makes a real difference.
