Vertically mounted graphics cards sure look cool, but the drawbacks from them should seriously be considered. A GPU thats looks better, doesn't mean it performs better. About This Video

I got a question about GPU mounting: is vertical mounting doing anything beyond looking cool? So I did the research and then actually vertically mounted my 3060 Ti in my own build, and what I found is pretty simple—aside from aesthetics and personal preference, there’s mostly downside. A GPU that looks better doesn’t mean it performs better, and the first thing that can take a hit is temps. The biggest issue is decreased airflow. If you don’t have a big case, your GPU fans can end up right up against the front panel, and I’ve seen cases where temps jump 10–20°C, which is not what you want. Even with my larger case (with more room than most), I still noticed a pretty big temperature increase. The second major drawback is the mounting stress: the bracket and screws are effectively holding the full weight of the card in a different orientation, and without support underneath, it can move around. I don’t know the long-term effects, but if something comes loose, you’re looking at a mess—especially at the display connections. There are a few legit reasons to do it: small form factor cases that require it, making room to access motherboard ports, or reducing GPU sag. Personally, I like how my card looks vertically mounted, so I’m keeping it—but unless you actually need it, the “benefit” is basically just the look.
