About This Video

If you guys don’t know this, I do not have good aim at all. It’s not anywhere close to perfect, and it’s probably not even passable as “decent aim” in competitive games. So in this video I wanted to see how good my aim could actually get just by changing my mouse—not brands, not a slightly different shape, but the whole type of mouse. I switched from a normal sensor mouse to an ergonomic trackball mouse for a couple days and did gameplay tests (Valorant) to see if it would magically fix my mediocrity. Pretty quickly, I realized the ball sensitivity was way too high for how I normally play, since I’m used to low DPI. After adjusting it, the big thing is you can’t set it too low either, because your thumb can’t travel far enough to keep up—you want enough range of motion without lifting your thumb off the ball. Once I got it dialed in, I could hit some decent shots (and yeah, I picked the best-looking clips), but overall I was still worse than on a traditional mouse. The surprise was it didn’t completely tank my performance, but my takeaway is simple: traditional gaming mice are still the way to go unless you physically can’t use one. If trackballs are your thing though, the ProtoArc EM01 is actually a solid option for the price, with a comfortable sculpted shape, wireless, and even RGB.
